Didn’t Sign on National Signing Day? Don’t panic.

Just like other Collegiate Athletics, College Rodeo does have a National Signing Day- March 1.  It has come and gone, and if you didn’t sign a Letter of Intent, you might be feeling like you missed the college rodeo boat and maybe even questioning if you should try. If you are a Senior in high school, first, take a deep breath—there’s still time to make this work! Your college rodeo journey isn’t over, and there are still plenty of opportunities to find the right fit for your future. At Bullfrog Recruiting Solutions, we’re here to help student-athletes and parents navigate the recruiting process, whether you signed on Signing Day or not. Here are some possible next steps for you!

1. Re-Evaluate Your Options

If you didn’t sign, now is the time to take a step back and reassess your college options. Ask yourself:

✔️ What type of program am I looking for?

✔️ What do I want my college experience to look like?

✔️ Do I have a specific academic focus or major?

✔️ What do I want my rodeo team experience to look like?

Be assured, there are still colleges actively recruiting student-athletes after Signing Day. Some programs might not have finalized their rosters yet, and others could still be looking for the right fit.

2. Reach Out to Coaches Directly

Coaches may still be looking for recruits, but they won’t know you’re interested unless you make the first move! If you’re already in the Bullfrog Recruiting Portal, update your profile, highlight any new achievements, create an introduction post in the Say Howdy space, and start reaching out to schools that interest you. If you’re not in the portal yet—now is the perfect time to join!

✔️ Send a professional email introducing yourself.

✔️ Attach an updated rodeo resume and highlight video.

✔️ Ask about any remaining spots on their roster and if they’d be open to a conversation.

3. Keep Competing & Improving

If you didn’t sign, don’t stop working toward your goals- your high school rodeo season isn’t over yet! Use the time to improve your skills, refine your rodeo performances, and stay in top shape. Coaches are always on the lookout for dedicated athletes who keep pushing forward, even when things don’t go as planned. Be sure to look for opportunities outside of the arena to become well rounded and bring valuable skills to your future rodeo program. 

Consider:

🏆 Volunteer opportunities

🎯 Seeking out additional coaching or training opportunities

📽 Updating your highlight video with recent performances

4. Apply for Scholarships—Every Dollar Counts!

It is possible that some colleges have just committed a majority of their scholarship money with those athletes that did sign on National Signing day.  And, that doesn’t mean you have missed out on the money! Take this opportunity to apply for as many scholarships as your busy senior-year schedule allows. There’s still time to secure other financial aid that can help make college more affordable- and maybe open up your choices and take “whoever gives me the most money” off the list of priorities!
